Sunday Announcements

 Week of July 15, 2018

Please keep in your prayers our youth and adult leaders who are leaving this  morning with youth from St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Centreville, VA  for a week long Youth Habitat for Humanity Trip in Delaware Their theme this year is "Raise Others Up", so please raise them up with prayers. May God bless their ministry and their travels.

Please remember Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Annandale in your prayers, they have been vandalized multiple times since May.  Please pray that perpetrators are caught; the congregation recovers from these expressions of violence; and the hatred and divisiveness in our world might be healed.

A GIANT and heartfelt THANK YOU to all the adult and youth volunteers that generously gave their time and talent to our VBS Ministry and those that donated supplies prior to the start! It truly takes a village and the success of our VBS could not have been achieved without all of YOU!

God’s Work, Our Hands Project – Today following the 10am Worship Service in the Fellowship Hall  we will be making a lunch for the LAMB CENTER in Fairfax, which will be served to about 100 individuals the following day.  The LAMB Center offers comprehensive, life sustaining assistance to the homeless in the Fairfax County area.  Many of those who attend the LAMB Center also are our guests at the Hypothermia Shelter in January, so please come and help put together a nice lunch for our friends.  If you would like to assist in taking the lunch to the Center at around 10:45 am and serving it on Monday, July 16, please contact Pastor Lynn.

Altar Flowers and Sanctuary Lamp - Sign up to reserve your Sunday – Altar Flowers are $33.00 and the Sanctuary Lamp is $6.00 per week.  Sign up sheets are located on the Bulletin Board in the narthex to the right as you exit the Sanctuary.

Manicure Minstry - Would you be interested in adding some "polish" to those in a nursing home? King of Kings has partnered with Fairfax Rehab and Nursing Center to provide manicures for residents by filing and polishing their nails (no clipping) and of course chatting. Please let us know if you are available on any of the following dates – Tuesdays, July 31, August 28 and/or September 25 at 1:30pm.  Sign up sheet is located on the Narthex kiosk or contact the church office.

The Can offering for the month of July supports the work of Lutheran Social Services of the National Capital Area.  Some of their ministries include: Summer Camps for children and youth who are impacted by HIV/AIDS, mental health diagnosis or substance abuse; accompanying recently resettled refugees; and training foster care homes in Virginia.  Thank you for sharing your loose change!

Backpacks for the 2018 – 2019 School Year! We are partnering with Western Fairfax Christian Ministries to provide 30 backpacks for Rocky Run Middle School. (As of July 10th we have collected 9 backpacks)  For some families, the prospect of purchasing backpacks and supplies to start the school year is stressful, especially when they are struggling with basic needs. GENDER NEUTRAL SOLID COLORS  - Large Size - 17-19 inch high x 13in wide x 10 inch deep, with at least  two main compartments – Suggestion: High Sierra (sold at Costco for $19.00), or other large multiple compartment backpack).  Please no backpacks from Five Below … they are too small and not sturdy enough.  If you prefer us to do the shopping please make your check payable to King of Kings Lutheran Church/memo line backpacks and place in the offering plate or church office mailbox.  Please drop your donation off by July 22nd.  For more info contact Fran in the church office/ext. 221 or
